LOCAL THREATS

Below are some of the local threats unique to the El Dorado region. Some of them use local threat mechanics that you should familiarize yourself with.

+ Critters

Delfini

Amphibious creatures with a nearly unbreakable carapace and fearsome claws, the Delfini dwell in the waters around El Dorado, fresh and salt alike. They prefer live prey, and seemingly Lineages most of all. When hungry or emboldened they have been known to come ashore and hunt, especially at night. The Hellions have made many attempts to control their population with limited success. A Delfini Deep One is among the most fearsome of kaiju.

Psyote

Psyotes are coyotes who have developed psionic abilities that they use to prey upon the unwary. They are remarkably clever, and are known to hunt exclusively under cover of darkness. Alarmingly, their psionics interfere with technology, so electric lighting gives scant safety. They seem to prefer aberrants as prey, but will happily consume anything they can kill.

Sin-Eater

A hunched amalgamation of creatures with a canid-like face and fungus growing in its pelt. This grave-distorted being has an unusual (and hungry) relationship with emotions of fear, guilt, and regret. This threat is borrowed with permission from our friends at DR: Colorado!

+ Lil’ Critters

Crystal Bandit

Hissssss! Keep them away from the workbenches!

Glopossum

They got into the kitchenware again! Don’t worry, they’re definitely dead now.

+ Raiders

Gear Raiders

Only encountered a handful of times to date, Gear Raiders are mechanically-minded raiders who embed machines within their flesh. Their grasp of technology is advanced for raiders, and they are able to create and use weapons that closely approximate those of Lineages. They are clearly drawn to technological material that they can steal and repurpose, and spiretech in particular.

whisper walkers

Whisper Walkers are cousins to the Whisper Kin, but able to hide and hunt in broad daylight due to their unique psionic stealth. Whereas Whisperkin prey upon those who are already asleep, Whisper Walkers put their victims to sleep and then drag them back to their den for a lethal nap.

+ Zombies

apostate

Devout in life, the constant psionic buzz of faith now drives these zombies mad, and they seek to silence it one victim at a time. Apostates always appear among hordes of other undead, often including one or more Revenants, bolstering the horde’s defenses and healing them while crushing resistance with a two-handed weapon.

Bloater

A shambling zombie brimming with noxious fluids and gas, Bloaters are an attempt by the local Mortis to expunge an excess of diseases or conditions. An emergence of Bloaters is a common reaction to overuse of Necrokinetics, or an indication of an environmental pollutant affecting the Mortis.

Crystalline Dead

Exposure to spire crystal energy leads to Creeping Crystallization disease, which slowly kills the host. Those who lose their last Infection in this way may return as Crystalline Dead. Unmistakable due to their multi-colored crystal protrusions, these zombies come in a variety of forms including Crystal Heads, Crystal Chuckahs, Crystal Hulks, and Crystal Bound. All forms of Crystalline Dead seek to consume spire crystals in addition to flesh and blood.

revenant

Revenants are zombies of people absolutely consumed by hatred for something or someone, or who revel in violence and bloodlust. Revenants are distinctive in their use of melee weapons and armor, and their muscle memory of combat skill.

+ Other or Unknown Classification

Roanoke “Super Semper” Soldiers

The common name is a misnomer, as it has been discovered that these beings are biologically distinct from Semper Mort, despite the superficial similarities. They do appear to be classifiable as Lineages, however monstrous and corrupted. A number of ancient facilities relating to something called Project Roanoke were discovered in the region. In the process of exploring these facilities the Roanoke Soldiers were released. They have razor talons, powerful jaws, and a remarkable ability to heal and regenerate.
