ACTION REQUESTS

+ CHARACTER CREATION & REWRITES

Before you attend your third event, we encourage you to review the rulebook and identify if there are any aspects of your character you would like to change. You have the option of “melting down” your character into a pool of experience points, and using those to create the same character with changes, or a new character identity. If you choose a new identity you will not be able to rewrite that character again through this process.  You may also rewrite a character by spending 1,000 Community Assistance Points.

+ CHARACTER RETIREMENT

Players who have earned over 200 experience points and complete a retirement story arc at their Home Branch will receive 75 experience points to use toward a new character. (Pg. 97-98)

  1. A retirement story arc must be discussed with a player’s Home Branch’s employees in the downtime and must be a mutually created story that not only brings a sense of completion to the character; but also provides a character retirement that will engage and drive story for other players.

  2. A retirement story arc must be a minimum of 3 months in length and can take as long as 6 months.

  3. At the start of a retirement story arc all currency, items, resources, and in-character materials that the character has must be turned over to a Home Branch. A character on a retirement story arc will be provided with some of their resources for the continuation of play; however, most items must be turned in. Both the Guide and the player should record what items are turned in just in case a retirement story arc is canceled before the end. The new character will be awarded half of all currency, scrap, herb and produce.

  4. Once a retirement story arc begins, a player must follow the retirement story all the way through to the end. In the instance that the player decides not to follow the retirement story arc until the end, the items that were turned in will be returned to the player. Any items that expire between the start of a retirement story arc and its cancellation will not be replaced.

  5. The player must check in with the Guides and participants they interact with the most on an out-of-character level to encusre that no only is the person who is retiring their character not experiencing negative bleed, but also that those who are impacted the most by the character retirement are not being impacted by negative bleed.

  6. The Home Branch’s employees and the player must follow and agree on all outlined aspects of a retirement story arc (check-in, turning in of all goods, creation of a story that is beneficial to the player and to the community, and clear communication and direction in the downtime) at the start, middle, and end of the retirement arc.

+ CHARACTER BACKGROUND

Being invested in your character and their history is excellent for facilitating good roleplay. By providing a background you enable us to better weave your character’s backstory into our local game. Certain Strains require an approved backstory prior to entering play. Below is a list of requirements for submitting a background to make sure that we can ingest it easily and not miss anything.

  • Use Bullet Points. Submissions in narrative format will not be accepted.

  • Dystopia Rising: SoCal branch only has story control within our region.

  • Keep all groups you create as small as possible.

  • Brevity and concise bullets increase our ability to add this into our game.

+ Society Membership Request

To have your character join a Society you must complete this Action Request.  Please make sure you are familiar with the Society’s expectations of play and rules for membership before you apply.  Once we receive your request we will reach out to you and other active members in the Society to create an experience around being inducted into the Society.

+ Create a New Society or Cult of Faith

Players may be interested in developing new Society Memberships or Cults of Faith.  First, make sure that you understand what Society Membership means.  Next, read through the existing Societies and Cults for an idea as to how they are written.

A minimum of 6 interested and active Leading Characters is required in order to create a new Society or Cult of Faith.  This number can include travelers who attend SoCal regularly, but the majority must be local.  If you are interested in opening up a local Society that comes from another chapter, you should instead use the general contact form so that Bennett can get in touch with their gamerunners.

+ PROFESSIONAL FOCUS ACHIEVEMENTS

To request a Professional Focus Achievement a character must have met or exceeded 100 total XP spent. The Achievement itself also costs 10XP to add.

The character must also have the relevant skills on their character sheet at least at the Proficient level.

Lastly, the player must put in a plot request to their local branch that outlines the Professional Focus Achievement that they will be picking up as well as the general flavor of the story that they would like regarding earning that achievement. (Pg. 137-139)

+ SKILL MODULE REQUEST

Proficient Necrokinetics (pg 130): This skill may also be used, based on module design and written restrictions, to gain information in specific Mortis Amaranthine-related scenes. Staff members are encouraged to create and work with players to create modern and local stories, Lores, and resources from recently dead individuals in the area. Players wanting to use this aspect of the skill in this way should put in a plot request (instead of just doing it on the fly) to allow staff to prepare a great story and experience.

+ FINANCIAL INSTITUTION SUBMISSIONS

An individual with Master Financial Influence may choose to create a group that is a sister organization to one of the Financial Institutions used for the Proficient Financial Influence check-in skill. They should inform their branch with an Action Request (below) of this decision and state which Financial Institution they choose to ally with. This is separate from using Master Financial Influence to request a module. (pg 119)

+ SPIRE CRYSTAL EXPERIMENTATION

The potential of Spire Crystals promises untold (if unpredictable) power.  The early days following the Crystal Rush were a wild west of experimentation, as eager inventors toyed with the different colors and grades, and tested their curious properties.  “Spiretech” has now moved into the realm of large scale projects using so-called Flawless Crystals that can influence an entire settlement, and beyond.

Creating a Flawless Crystal of a given color requires 10 Shards of that color, created through Crystal Fusion, as well as the cooperation of a Casted Faction that has the know-how and infrastructure to fuse crystals on an industrial scale.  Finally, the project needs an appropriate phys-rep.  Such projects are intended to involve collaboration by a number of players.  Once we receive your request, we will reach out to discuss the specifics of the project.

A Flawless Crystal Project lasts for 3 months, and creates 3 effects during that time:  First, a Zone of Mechanics wherever the project is placed in town, typically requiring a type of roleplay to receive an effect (typically an Upsurge or “buff” of some kind).  These will be on par with existing Room Augments.  Second, a passive settlement-wide effect, such as a special rule for how a skill operates or how a threat behaves.  Third, an impactful narrative effect within the region that may affect broad storylines, such as a shift in the balance of power between Casted Factions.

+ RESEARCH

If you wish to conduct in-character research to learn more about a local plot item or phenomenon, you may submit a request. Group requests involving other researchers are highly encouraged. Please note that only local topics may be researched, as our story team only has control within our region. Questions relating to national plots or the broader Dystopia Rising universe cannot be accepted.

For best results, it is helpful to know your working theories. That way, if a question is not really on the ball, we can at least address your theory and give some insight.

We try not to give “you don’t know” as a complete answer, but sometimes that’s the truth of the matter. In such cases we will try to give you some next steps so that you can move forward with your next attempt.  And sometimes asking questions just leads to more questions.

+ PERSONAL MODULE REQUESTS

PERSONAL MODULE REQUESTS

We’ll take your request and pair it with one of our excellent Writers. They will take your request and turn it into a fully fleshed out module, which we will try and send out at the requested time.

If pressed for time (we can only fit so much horror into a weekend) we will prioritize the modules that engage and interact with the most players. Don't worry though, if your plot doesn't get run the month following your request we'll put it higher on the priority list for the next month.

Keep in mind, this isn't a tool to bring Support Cast out for personal RP, nor is it likely that every detail of what you are asking for will go exactly by the script you provide. Less is often more, and we’ve found that requests that give our writer’s the opportunity to put their own creative flare on it tend to be more fulfilling than ones that try to script every moment. We're going to work with you and make sure the module matches genre, overarch tone, continuity and also provides the best potential for plot and story. These stories are for you, so please don't submit requests for anyone else without discussing it with them, in detail.

READ THIS SECTION BEFORE FILLING OUT THE FORM

Please be informative and succinct as you fill out the form. If there are backstories or other plots that you are referencing please make sure that you have submitted them and they’ve been approved. If you are expanding on an NPC from your background, please let the writer know the details of that NPC.

We can only use materials from backstories of Dystopia Rising: SoCal characters and we can only run plots and stories that originate inside SoCal. If you have an idea for a plot that involves more than one branch of Dystopia Rising please get in touch with Bennett so we can discuss it among the involved branches. This form is not built for that kind of request.

Please try to submit plot requests a month in advance to give our team a chance to develop a deeper story.

Try to put your story request together after reading the Dystopia Rising world materials, considering how you would want the story to feel, and which people you want to involve. The more players you involve in your request the more resources we invest into bringing the story to life. Plus, you get another amazing story to share with your friends.
