GENERAL POLICIES

COVID-19

We will be following CDC and California guidelines regarding COVID-19, and we will update this if anything has to change before the first live game. Our current policy will be as follows...

1. Participants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (received all primary doses at least 2 weeks prior) and up-to-date (received all boosters for which they are eligible) in order to attend our events. Individuals who are Fully Vaccinated but are not Up-to-Date (have received all primary doses but have not received all boosters for which they are eligible) may attend if they provide proof of a negative Covid test collected no more than 48 hours before the event. You can show proof of your vaccination by emailing it to us at rick.dystopiarisingsocal@gmail.com. Gate access will be limited to those who have submitted proof of vaccination. Unfortunately, due to the continued threat of the virus and the Omicron variant, we will not be able to offer any exception to this.

2. We still require that you wear your mask indoors where we elbow up (like in logi/post office or ops/NPCland) but they won’t be required outdoors or in open-air spaces. If you would like the extra protection feel free to wear one or integrate it into your costume.

3. Social distancing is not required for fully vaccinated individuals per CDC guidelines and current State data.

4. If you feel sick or have a fever, we ask that you do not come to game. We will give you a full refund if you have already purchased the game and got sick right before (or you can keep the XP instead, along with the self-teach skill). If you start to feel sick or get a fever at game, we ask that you quarantine from other players and head home for some rest to recover.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

To play in Dystopia Rising SoCal you must be at least 17 years of age and must show a valid form of photo ID that can verify your age at check-in. If you are under the age of 17, you may still play the game if a legal guardian is with you. The legal guardian will have to play a character alongside you, and be with you at all times. If you need more information regarding this please Contact Us.

PORTRAYAL OF MINORS

Dystopia Rising SoCal does not allow the portrayal of characters who are younger than 18 years of age. All characters portrayed by individuals are considered to be adults, and must not give the impression of being younger than 18 years of age. The exception to this is characters portrayed by minors. Those characters are required to be the same age as the person portraying them.

ROMANTIC ROLEPLAY

Romantic roleplay of any kind requires out-of-game negotiation in advance of play. We ask that players first get to know one another on an out-of-game level for a minimum of 3 months before requesting or participating in romantic roleplay. If a request is declined, no further requests are to be made. Players younger than 18 years of age may not consent to romantic roleplay.

THUMBS CHECK-IN SYSTEM

Roleplay scenes can be intense. Sometimes voices are raised or tears are shed, and it can be difficult to separate the emotions and sensations of the character from those of the player. LARPers call this phenomenon “bleed.”  It is always appropriate to break character and check-in with your fellow LARPers, especially after an intense scene.
In order to allow participants to conduct this check-in during scenes with minimal breaking of immersion, we encourage use of the Thumbs Check-In system. This is as simple as giving the “thumbs up” gesture to your fellow player. A thumbs up in response is an enthusiastic “I am okay; I am an emotional wreck and I am loving it.” Thumbs sideways is “I am not sure; I was okay but now I’m experiencing some bleed.” If you receive this response you should ask what the player needs to feel safe (we recommend at least a few minutes break and a drink of water). A thumbs down, or no response at all, indicates a player in real distress. Stop the scene, get the player to a safe place, and find help.

DR SoCal Projectile Weapon Policy

DR SoCal follows the network foam projectile guidelines, with the following addendums:
All projectile weapons used at DR SoCal must be made by a major commercial manufacturing company (like Nerf) and must have no non-cosmetic modifications. Similarly, all ammunition used must be made by a major manufacturing company and unmodified.
We may decide to inspect/test any weapons used at game at any time to ensure they are functioning within normal parameters and have not had the firing mechanisms modified. We will be forced to take disciplinary action in any cases where we find this rule not being followed.
To provide some transparency, we must adopt this policy to protect from legal liability. If something goes wrong and someone gets hurt, the liability for the dart guns and such lies with the manufacturer, if no modifications have been made. This is why we require all guns to be made by major manufacturers, who have the resources and liability insurance to cover such claims. If someone gets hurt with a gun that is modified, or even a home-made model (like some of the really cool ones you can find on Etsy) then there is no protection for the person who got hurt and no protection for DR SoCal. Since one instance of this happening could very easily be a lawsuit of a scale that would permanently shut down our game, we have decided to play it safe and only allow the stock versions with these protections in place.

DR Network Foam Projectile Guidelines

We thank you for your understanding and we appreciate you helping to keep all our players and our game safe.

STORY OPERATIONS AND LOGISTICS HOURS

Story Operations and Logistics both close from 2am-8am Saturday and Sunday. The event itself does not pause - participants are still in-character, and may still take in-game actions. Logistics still follows the one project rule for crafting, so if you have completed a project you must wait until logistics opens in the morning before beginning another. CvC is still active in the Wasteland, and pre-negotiated CvC actions elsewhere may still occur if it has been agreed that they may take place during these hours, and all usual rules are followed, including a Guide being present where required.

TENTS AND SLEEPING

Out of consideration for the necessity for sleep, we do not raid tents at night. However, tents are not an OOG “pocket dimension.” Threats may pursue you if you are seen entering a tent, or heard being conspicuously loud inside one (such as talking). If we do raid a tent, players are asked to come out of the tent so that we can protect players and property. You will have sixty seconds to exit the tent, at which point you can fight back or respond in-character. Players who do not exit in time will enter play in bleed-out.

For safety reasons, active combat is not allowed inside buildings with only one exit. Such buildings use the same rules as tents.

OUT OF GAME SLEEP

If you have a medical need to sleep out-of-game, there is an OOG camping area behind Story Ops. It is not a quiet area, but you will not be disturbed.

SMOKING & VAPING

Smoking and vaping are permitted only in the designated areas.

OPEN FLAMES

Campfires of any kind are not allowed on site by law. Any open flame for cooking or heating must have a valve that can shut it off. If you are using a flame when a combat mod approaches you will call “Caution - Open Flame!” and the action will avoid you while you immediately turn off the flame and then return to play.
